Deriving its name from "South of Houston Street," SoHo is lower Manhattan's trendy center of art and fashion.

Originally home to many industrial factories, SoHo was revitalized in the 1960's after a wealth of artists began flocking to the neighborhood. While the neighborhood has retained its old-style staples such as cast iron architecture, cobblestone pathways, and early 20th century lampposts, it has been transformed into a hip new center of cool, where the city's latest trends are bred. Old warehouses are now contemporary art galleries, and industrial complexes have been transformed into stylish boutiques.

In addition to abundant art galleries, nowadays SoHo is one of Manhattan's most vibrant shopping areas. With most shopping action condensed between Broadway and Sullivan Street north of Grand Street, SoHo is home to designer shops such as Victoria's Secret, H&M and J.
