Description
The Distrikt is a brand new, 32-story themed hotel that is one of a kind among New York hotel deals. Each floor belongs to one of 10 New York neighborhoods such as the Financial District, Harlem or Midtown West. In the heart of New York at West 40th Street, the Distrikt is a metaphor for the city of Manhattan itself. In the spirit of New York, the Distrikt is a 32 story skyscraper that offers sweeping views of the Hudson River and the rest of the city.
The Distrikt is beyond just an upscale boutique hotel; it is a tribute to New York City itself. Commissioned by New York City Artist Chris Rubino, the walls on each floor are designed to capture the feel and sights of each New York neighborhood. The lobby hosts a 12 foot tall Central Park "living wall", collages of famed NYC neighborhoods and a wood-carved wall representing the Manhattan street grid.
Located in Midtown West at 40th Street between 8th and 9th avenue, the Distrikt is situated near the famed New York Times Building, just a few blocks from Times Square, just off some of the great 9th Avenue in spots, only 5 minutes from Penn Station and a subway ride to everywhere else. The area is abundant with restaurants and Broadway theaters (See Step 5 to add Broadway Tickets to your New York Vacation Package), and is so central to Manhattan that it is easy to get anywhere you need to be. Many NYC tours that allow you to experience New York Sightseeing from atop a double-decker bus launch from this area. These tours allow you to hop on and hop off where ever you need- much nicer than traveling by cab if you're looking to see the city (See Step 4 for details).

Neighborhood & Attractions
Midtown West was the original destination of many Irish Immigrants traveling to the United States the late 1800s. Located on the West Side between 34th Street and 59th Street, from 8th Avenue to the Hudson River, it was a center of New York's underworld and organized crime rings for many years and was features in hundreds of Hollywood films. Conflicts centered in this area were the inspiration for films such as West Side Story (See Step 4, "Entertainment Tickets" for West Side Story Broadway tickets.) About 30 years ago and then more rapidly thereafter, this area changed for the better and has become one of the best places to live and work in the city.
In the past few decades Midtown West has been transformed into an upscale neighborhood, due to its close proximity to Midtown. Because it resides so close to the Broadway Theatre District, it is home to many young actors and actresses. The surrounding blocks are ripe with activities! Midtown is homed to famed attractions such as:
