Midtown West was the original destination of many Irish Immigrants traveling to the United States the late 1800s. Located on the West Side between 34th Street and 59th Street, from 8th Avenue to the Hudson River, it was a center of New York's underworld and organized crime rings for many years and was features in hundreds of Hollywood films. About 30 years ago and then more rapidly thereafter, this area changed for the better and has become one of the best places to live and work in the city.

In the past few decades Midtown West has been transformed into an upscale neighborhood, due to its close proximity to Midtown.
